(ORDO NEWS) — A giant squid has been discovered on the coast of the Sea of Japan in Tottori Prefecture.
A local resident spotted a squid on the seashore in Iwami town on Sunday morning.
Staff at the Land and Sea Museum at Sanin Kaigan Geopark identified it as a giant squid, known in Japan as “daioika”.
It reaches a length of 3 meters 20 centimeters. Museum staff believe he was already dead when he washed ashore.
Giant squid live at depths of 200 to 1,000 meters, mainly along the Pacific coast.
