Giant ‘Sky Eye’ telescope may have detected alien signals

(ORDO NEWS) — Chinese researchers have discovered a signal that may belong to alien civilizations, according to the country’s science ministry.

Researchers at Beijing Normal University this year found several cases of possible technological footprints and extraterrestrial civilizations outside of Earth, according to a report from the Ministry of Science and Technology.

According to the researchers, the signals were detected by the world’s largest radio telescope “Sky Eye”.

A spherical radio telescope with an aperture of 500 meters, called FAST, is located in the southwestern Chinese province of Guizhou and began operation on September 25, 2016.

Cosmologist Zhang Tongjie, chief scientist at the China Civilization Research Group, that FAST detected “several narrow-band electromagnetic signals that are different from the past.”

But Tongjie, who was once dubbed “China’s premier alien hunter,” also said the signals could just be radio interference.

“The probability that the suspicious signal is some kind of radio interference is also very high, the data must be further confirmed and excluded. It can be a long process,” Tongjie said.
