US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The state of New York is now considered the most disadvantaged region of the United States in terms of outbreaks of coronavirus: almost half of all cases in the country are recorded here. And the largest metropolis of the United States looks just frightening.
The authors of the YouTube channel Shifting Lanes swept through the streets of deserted New York on the Hyundai Veloster N and shot a video that was eerily reminiscent of frames from some post-apocalyptic movie.
Anyone who has ever visited New York knows that the central streets of the city, regardless of the time of day, are crowded with locals, tourists, and cars.
The policy of isolation and quarantine, meanwhile, has led to the fact that in order to meet in the city even a single living soul, you need to try. The authors of the story, entitled Empty City swept through the main iconic places of New York, and everywhere noted abandonment and desolation.
Even in Times Square, where crowds are usually crowded, they noticed only a few pedestrians, as well as police cars, taxis, and the press. All stores are closed, but huge advertising screens continue to show goods on empty streets.
Other locations the film crew visited include the World Trade Center area, Columbus Circle in Manhattan, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Lincoln Tunnel connecting New York and New Jersey. And everywhere the picture is about the same.
Currently, there are 21,689 coronavirus cases in New York State, of which 13,119 are in New York City itself.
