(ORDO NEWS) — The American company General Dynamics presented demonstrators of the promising AbramsX battle tank and the StrykerX infantry fighting vehicle. But it’s not all new.
According to the information provided, the new tank is equipped with a diesel-electric engine, which will provide fuel savings of 50% compared to the M1A2 Abrams tank. Savings are also provided by reducing the weight of the tank by 10 tons.
In addition, the crew will be reduced from four to three. Probably due to the introduction of an automatic loader.
The vehicle will be equipped with a range of new weapons and all sorts of sensors, including the 30mm Kongsberg Protector RS6 remotely controlled weapon station, the Trophy active protection system and new electron-optical infrared sensors for the commander and gunner.
Another novelty from General Dynamics was the StrykerX infantry fighting vehicle, which will replace the Stryker infantry fighting vehicle, which has been in service for more than 40 years.
It will be created on the basis of the Swiss Piranha III and, although there is still very little technical data, it is still known that StrykerX will also receive a hybrid power plant and many new sensors.
Even less is known about two other new products from General Dynamics: the M-SHORAD self-propelled microwave installation / short-range air defense system to counter UAVs and the TRX Breacher robotic barrier vehicle.
