(ORDO NEWS) — In 2017, the Japanese company Toshiba built a robot that can work even in the radiation hell of the third reactor of the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant.
The man-made disaster at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant occurred on March 11, 2011 as a result of an earthquake and a devastating tsunami caused by it.
All this led to a power failure of the cooling system of the reactors of the nuclear power plant and caused the leakage of radioactive water into the ocean.
After the cooling system of the third reactor failed, the nuclear fuel melted.
The level of radiation in the nuclear power plant area has become so high that even protective overalls will not save people, so it was decided to entrust the analysis of debris and the disposal of fuel rods to a robot.
It is equipped with a remote control and will be sent to a reactor cooling pool filled with radioactive water.
The robot is equipped with manipulators for capturing and carrying debris, as well as a powerful cutter. Its main task is to help teams that will work in hazardous areas and serve as an additional measure of protection in case similar accidents happen again in the future:
