US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Representatives of the G7 countries discussed the actions of the World Health Organization in response to the outbreak of coronavirus and called on WHO to change its approach to work and reform itself.
Leaders recognized that the G7 countries contribute more than a billion dollars annually to the World Health Organization, and much of the discussion has focused on the lack of transparency and chronically mismanagement of the pandemic by WHO. Leaders called for a thorough review and reform of WHO processes, the White House said in a statement.
WHO has announced a pandemic of an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection that originated in China at the end of 2019, March 11, 2020. To date, 2 million people have been infected with COVID-19, more than 139 thousand have died. In the United States, the number of cases exceeded 640 thousand. Trump is confident that WHO should have sounded the alarm a few months earlier.
On April 15, during a briefing at the White House, the US head said that WHO had “failed to fulfill its direct responsibilities” and should now be held accountable. He noted that the organization contributed to the “misinformation” of the PRC about coronavirus, which probably led to its wider spread in the world. That is why Washington will no longer sponsor WHO.
Billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates called the decision of the US leader dangerous.
WHO is a specialized agency of the United Nations . The main function of the organization lies in solving the international problems of public health on Earth.
