(ORDO NEWS) — The 100-year-old great-grandmother of six great-grandchildren celebrated the birth of the first long-awaited great-granddaughter.
In the English city of Northfleet, Kent, a family in which only boys were born for 75 years celebrated the birth of the first girl named Maeva since 1947. This is reported by the Daily Mirror.
Maeva’s 100-year-old great-grandmother Gwen Smith was especially pleased with her long-awaited great-granddaughter.
Since Smith lives in a nursing home, her family had to negotiate with management to celebrate the girl’s birthday in an expanded format.
Five generations of the family gathered at the celebration: among the guests were five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren of the British woman.
Smith was born on February 28, 1921, at the age of 16 she met a young man named Ron, and in 1940 she married him.
After the wedding, Ron was sent abroad for five years as part of the engineering troops of the United Kingdom. After the reunion, the couple enjoyed traveling for many years, raising their two daughters, Gloria and Sandra.
