(ORDO NEWS) — The European Space Agency (ESA) has published a video taken by the Solar Orbiter spacecraft during its approach to the Sun in September 2022.
It shows how a stream of gases resembling a snake glides over the surface of our star in super-rapidity.
The researchers believe that this unusual stream, which glides across the solar disk at a speed of 170 kilometers per second, was formed by cold atmospheric gases suspended by a magnetic field in the hotter surrounding plasma of the Sun.
Matter in the stream moves along a filament of the magnetic field that extends from one side of the star to the other.
