(ORDO NEWS) — The results of one large American study showed that the death rate from coronavirus is lower in those societies where the majority of people have been vaccinated against the infection. All data obtained were published in The BMJ.
The study was conducted on the basis of information about 2558 counties in 48 US states. It turned out that in those areas where many residents were vaccinated against COVID-19, people died less often by more than 80 percent compared to places where mostly people were not vaccinated.
Scientists from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention studied how the vaccine is associated with the death rate of the population.
During the study, they analyzed more than 30 million cases of covid infection and more than 400 thousand deaths from this disease from December 2020 to December 2021.
After taking into account all the necessary factors, it turned out that in certain areas, with an increase in the number of vaccinated, mortality decreased.
So, for the first half of 2021 (the main strain is alpha), this mortality in regions with low (10-39 percent), medium (40-69 percent) and high (70 percent or more) vaccination levels decreased by 60, 75, 81 percent, respectively, compared to areas with a very low level (0-9 percent). If we talk about reducing the incidence, then the values were 57, 70 and 80 percent, respectively.
The same was observed in the second half of 2021. At that time, the delta variant of the coronavirus was considered dominant.
