(ORDO NEWS) — Red blood cells, which were grown by scientists in the laboratory, were first injected into humans.
The experiment is taking place in the UK, and scientists from the University of Cambridge and the University of Bristol are monitoring the condition of the volunteers.
As explained in the press services of universities, for the first time in the world, the process of transfusing people with artificial blood, which was obtained from other people’s stem cells, was carried out.
At this stage, there are two volunteers, they received approximately 5-10 ml of experimental blood. Further, 8 more volunteers will join the experiment. They will be given doses at four-month intervals.
If the experiment is successful, then doctors will be able to treat patients who have a rare blood type or have a certain hereditary disease.
