(ORDO NEWS) — Büro Ole Scheeren’s stunning new ultra-tall skyscraper set to rise above the city of Nanjing in China will have an unusual octagonal shape designed to reduce wind loads.
In addition to the original form, the building will also have several terraces surrounded by greenery, as well as a rooftop space with a beautiful view of the city.
Nanjing Nexus (aka Nanjing Jiangbei New Financial Center) will be located in a new up-and-coming area close to the Yangtze River and will rise to a height of 350m, placing it 75th in the official world ranking of ultra-tall buildings.
The skyscraper will take the form of a rough octagon with “carved” fragments, and the overall style of the facade will be enlivened by patterned glazing, as well as greenery and projecting terraces.
In addition, the project will include the construction of a second tower nearby, which will complement the design of the larger building.
“The façade’s concave, 3D-textured surfaces are designed to optimize the building’s solar performance and reduce structural wind loads by reflecting light that resembles the sparks and ripples of the Yangtze River.
Nanjing Nexus is an elegantly simple, cost-effective, and adaptable design that can be further developed into different scales and functions,” the project authors write in a press release.
While much of the interior of the tower will be given over to offices, there will also be a hotel at the top of the tower. The rooftop terrace offers breathtaking city views and access to the pool, restaurant and garden.
