(ORDO NEWS) — Created by specialists from the European Space Agency (ESA), the map shows what the Red Planet’s hydrosphere was like in the distant past.
New images of the Holden Plain, taken by the Mars Express robotic interplanetary station, have helped planetary scientists understand what role this region played in the distant past in the functioning of the Martian hydrosphere.
The Holden Plain is an ancient impact crater that was part of a canal system called Uzboy-Ladon-Morava.
The water that flowed into the Argyr plain entered the Uzboy valley, along which it fell into the Holden plain. Further, the water rushed along the valleys to the Ladon Plain and further to the north of the planet.
