(ORDO NEWS) — Australian and European authors of a new scientific study claim that by 2100 the Earth is threatened with a mass extinction that could destroy more than a quarter of the world‘s biodiversity.
Researchers have created a “virtual Earth” to better understand the global impacts caused by climate change.
According to their model, 10 percent of all plant and animal species will disappear by 2050, rising to 27 percent by the end of this century.
The study was led by European Commission scientist Giovanni Stron and professor from Flinders University (Australia) Corey Bradshaw.
They argue that the planet has already entered the sixth mass extinction caused by human activities and climate change.
