(ORDO NEWS) — Billionaire Elon Musk has shared his fears about the future, acknowledging that his aspirations to build a city on Mars may not be feasible unless urgent action is taken.
SpaceX’s CEO has said the low birth rate on Earth could thwart his ambitious plans to build a one-million-person base on the Red Planet.
He tweeted: “We should be much more concerned about the demographic collapse. If there aren’t enough people on Earth, there definitely won’t be enough on Mars.”
This isn’t the first time the tech mogul has voiced his concerns about declining birth rates. Earlier, he said that more people are needed to “become a multi-planetary civilization.”
“I think one of the biggest risks to civilization is the low birth rate and the rapidly declining birth rate,” he told the Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council last year. “Please look at the numbers – if people don’t have more children, civilization will collapse, mark my words.”
Back in 2020, Musk tweeted that his goal would be for humans to start living “in glass domes” on Mars. He also stated that the planet would gradually terraform so that humans could breathe on the Red Planet.
