(ORDO NEWS) — In a new interview, Elon Musk explains how Tesla’s development of autonomous driving is transforming into the company’s work in robotics.
Musk agrees with the interviewer that by about 2050 most homes will have home robots, although improving artificial intelligence (AI) remains a key stumbling block.
Elon Musk highlights the fact that companies like Boston Dynamics have demonstrated the feasibility of building attractive humanoid robots, but we are still a long way from AI robots being able to help around the house.
Asked about the timeline for building such a robot, Musk says, “I think we’ll have a prototype this year.” Elon Musk also mentions that he thinks the cost of a humanoid robot is likely to be less than that of a car, although initially the cost will be higher until production turns things around and lowers costs.
