(ORDO NEWS) — Billionaire Elon Musk has shown how out of touch he is by saying that “almost anyone” can afford a $100,000 trip to Mars.
The SpaceX CEO has long dreamed of taking millions of people to the red planet, but his recent comment about the affordability of the price raised eyebrows.
Musk shared his controversial opinion in an interview with Chris Anderson, head of the TED conference, which was published on the company’s YouTube channel.
In the video, Musk, who has ambitions to send 1 million people to Mars by 2050 using SpaceX, said the price of a $100,000 one-way ticket is achievable.
He said, “If it costs $100,000 to go to Mars, for example, then I think that just about anyone can work, save money, and end up with $100,000 and be able to go to Mars if they want to.”
The richest man in the world continued: “We want to make it accessible to anyone who wants to fly.”
