(ORDO NEWS) — In the exposition of the Azov Museum-Reserve, you can see the world‘s only skeleton of a five-meter monster – the Caucasian elasmoterium – just “straightened” people, Homo erectus, ate such.
An ancient cemetery of elephants and rhinoceros aged 1.4 million was found by scientists on the shores of the Sea of Azov.
Prehistoric fossils collected on the Taman Peninsula, in the Temryuk region of the Kuban, were assembled into an almost complete skeleton of the Caucasian elasmoterium – these monsters, judging by the artifacts, were hunted by ancient people.
The main part of the remains was found at the Early Paleolithic site of Homo erectus (Homo erectus) near the mud lake Sinya Balka.
The Azov Museum-Reserve is the only owner of the skeleton of the mentioned ancient rhinoceros on the planet. The exhibit has been glorifying the region for ten years now.
The first evidence of human habitation on the Taman Peninsula was found 20 years ago. Since then, a large collection of bones has been collected, which tells a lot about the life of the ancestor of modern man.
“On this monument, the main bones are the bones of elephants and elasmotherian rhinos.
These are not just fossils, these are animals that an ancient man saw, ate the meat of these animals for food…
A fairly large animal (Caucasian elasmotherium).
A large rhinoceros with a dome-shaped swelling on the frontal bones.
Almost 2.4 meters in height, 4.5 meters in length and about six tons of weight.
Such an animal lived on our territory 1.5 million years ago,” said Galina Timonina, head of the department of paleontology and nature of the Azov Museum-Reserve.
Now a real historical rescue operation is taking place on the Taman Peninsula. Its washed shores may soon collapse, and the location, along with the fossils, will simply be washed away by the sea.
If this happens, the tools of ancient people, and fossils, and many unique knowledge about the past will “float” from the hands of scientists.
Archaeologists and paleontologists are working with the same care, but at an accelerated pace, in a hurry to preserve history.
Earlier, 5-tv.ru talked about a 3,400-year-old city that was accidentally discovered in Iraq at the bottom of a shallow reservoir.
A Mittani-era settlement may once again be submerged, and local archaeologists have to rush excavations in order not to miss their incredible find.
