ECB should keep rates low in light inflation

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Weak inflation at the moment means that the European Central Bank can and should keep interest rates low, said ECB board member Francois Villeroy de Halo on Wednesday.

“Inflation will be low … this has very important consequences for the Bank of France and the ECB,” said Villeroy, who also heads the French central bank, on the air of Europe 1 radio station.

“In light of low inflation, we can and should keep interest rates very low – this will help support the economy and simplify the financing of additional debt,” said Villeroi.
