Earth has discovered a new satellite, though temporary
(ORDO NEWS) — Astronomers have discovered a new near-Earth asteroid, which received the designation 2023 FW13. The space rock is interesting in that this object can be a temporary satellite of our planet.
Asteroid 2023 FW13 was discovered by the Pan-STARRS automated telescope on March 28, 2023. According to preliminary estimates, its diameter is from 10 to 20 meters.
Computer modeling has shown that 2023 FW13 may be a quasi-satellite of the Earth, that is, the space object is in an elongated orbit with a 1:1 resonance with respect to the Earth.
According to calculations? 2023 FW13 hit the vicinity of our planet in 100 BC. e. and will remain its quasi-satellite until 3700 AD. e.
