(ORDO NEWS) — The agroeconomist says his worries about low ending stocks of wheat are heightening as inclement weather intensifies in parts of the Western Plains and Western Corn Belt.

Ben Brown of the University of Missouri says freezing temperatures early this morning in states like Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska are giving farmers cause for concern.

“We don’t need freeze warnings when the wheat comes out of dormancy…” he said. “This morning would cause some panic.”

Brown said the frost may have killed some early soybean crops as well.
