US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Water, which is our most important source of life after oxygen, is of great importance to our body. Specialist in internal medicine and nephrology, Dr. Arzu Akgül, explaining that water plays an important role in the fight against many diseases, ranging from coronavirus, which affected the whole world, and ending with cancer, voices important warnings and recommendations.
Water is the main tool for regulating all metabolic processes in our body, delivering nutrients to all cells and eliminating waste from vital processes. Dr. Arzu Akgyul notes that depending on the amount of adipose tissue of a person, the amount of water should be from 55 to 77% of body weight, and continues: “As long as the person’s weight does not change, the amount of liquid also remains unchanged. In newborns, this figure reaches 78%.
For the normal functioning of our kidneys, it is very important to consume enough water. Water provides the elimination of toxins with urine, sweat and feces, regulates body temperature and blood density. If we do not get enough fluid, toxins accumulate in the blood. As a result, urolithiasis or, even more dangerous, kidney failure can develop. ”
Dr. Arzu Akgyul says one of the safeguards against coronavirus is to maintain the immune system. “And for strong immunity, proper and balanced nutrition is necessary,” the expert continues. – Abundant water intake is also important to cleanse the body of toxins and stimulate metabolism. Daily intake of sufficient water helps to remove toxins from the body, neutralize bacteria and viruses.”
Akgyul also dispels some myths: “Water is the main source of our personal hygiene, but at the same time some typical misconceptions should be corrected. Gargling with water and vinegar, excessively hot water can damage the structure of the mucous membrane of the mouth and do more harm than good. Rinsing with salt and / or warm water, on the contrary, will be beneficial. Water consumption at frequent intervals prevents dehydration of our body, helps to increase our immunity, but, contrary to rumors, this does not ensure the virus enters the stomach.”
“The simplest approach to water consumption is to drink at least 2-2.5 liters of liquid in the summer and at least 1.5 liters in the winter,” the expert says. “In addition to feeling thirsty, the color of urine also provides information about our water balance. With a decrease in the amount of urine and its darkening, you need to drink water. Water must always be kept in a conspicuous place and constantly drunk, without waiting for a feeling of thirst. You need to drink a glass of water after waking up, a glass of water after each urination and increase water consumption during exercise, working in hot weather, long sitting trips.”
