Draft US sanctions against China due to COVID-19 submitted to Congress

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham introduced a bill to Congress allowing US President Donald Trump to sanction the PRC for refusing to cooperate in investigations into the origin of coronavirus infection. This was announced on May 12 by the Fox News channel.

“I am convinced that without cheating the Chinese Communist Party, the virus would not be here in the United States,” Graham said.

According to the document, Trump will have to provide senators within 60 days with confirmation that the Chinese government has reported on any investigation, closed all wildlife markets and released protesters detained in Hong Kong.

Otherwise, the American leader will be able to freeze assets for certain Chinese officials, ban travel and cancel visas, including student visas, for Chinese citizens.

On May 7, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Washington does not have confidence in the origin of the coronavirus, but there is “strong evidence” that he appeared in the laboratory.

At the same time, Trump emphasized that he does not believe in the intentional launch of the coronavirus pandemic by Chinese experts. According to the American leader, this probably happened by mistake or due to someone’s incompetence.
