(ORDO NEWS) — The Boeing E-4B “doomsday aircraft” is part of a fleet of so-called Nightwatch aircraft, which are designed to serve as a mobile command headquarters for the top military leadership of the United States in the event of a nuclear war.

The Boening E-4B took off on February 28, 2022 from the US Air Force Base in Nebraska and made a 4.5-hour flight towards Chicago and back.

It is also reported that during this short (possibly training) flight, the aircraft was accompanied by several early warning aircraft, which are used to track ballistic missiles.

Boeing E-4B aircraft are intended for the president, secretary of defense and other members of the top military leadership of the United States in the event of a nuclear war, and have been operated in the United States since the 1970s.
