US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Scientists from Hong Kong studied the situation with coronavirus more closely and three months after the start of the study said that 80% of the cases were caused by 20% of people who, for one reason or another, did not observe safety measures.
Additionally, it was found that approximately 70% of those infected do not transmit the virus to others. 20% of patients are super-distributors, infections occur due to a large concentration of people at one point.
According to Ben Cowling, one of the co-authors of the study, there were significantly more cases of superproliferation than previously predicted. They occur much more often than might be considered an accident. The transmission rate of the virus is so high that its pace is hard to imagine.
After analyzing 1,000 cases of infection, scientists agreed that stopping the epidemic is possible only by isolating the super-distributors. If today we start to deal with this issue, the second wave of coronavirus may not come.
About 350 cases out of 1000 were the result of close contacts among representatives of one group. In other cases of the disease, the virus was brought from abroad or other regions. Super-distributors created some clusters of the epidemic, its foci, which made the infection so massive. For example, one 61-year-old resident of South Korea was able to infect 43 parishioners of the church in a short time.
Scientists have known about the existence of the 20/80 rule for a long time. Its presence was confirmed by research in 2011. It is impossible to say exactly why some people actively spread the virus, while others do not. Maybe the problem lies in their immunity characteristics and behavior.
