(ORDO NEWS) — The UK Department of Defense has confirmed that by 2027 the first demo version of the Tempest fighter program will be launched into the air.
The development of this aircraft has just begun in the UK, but it already promises to be exciting.
The Ministry of Defense will work on the project, as well as BAE Systems, Leonardo UK, Rolls-Royce and MBDA UK.
The project’s design team is tasked with developing the Tempest delta-wing twin-engine fighter, which is due to enter service with the Royal Air Force in 2035.
British 6th generation fighter
The sixth-generation military aircraft will have machine-learning AI and autonomous systems that will allow it to function as a flight control and support center.
In addition, Tempest will have enough excess electricity to launch future hypersonic missiles and laser weapons, as well as drone swarm control systems.
All this requires a significant development of new technologies, so the production of a demonstrator aircraft is a vital step in the Tempest program.
This is especially important as Tempest is not only conceived as a key component of British air defence, but also as a way to retain domestic technological and industrial skills, increase exports and give the UK independence in defense decision-making while building cooperation with Tempest’s partner countries Japan and Italy. .
The demonstrator will be used by hundreds of companies and will be developed in Preston in Lancashire, UK.
It will also be tested, evaluated and built. For this, advanced digital engineering technologies will be used, including synthetic modeling and the development of systems based on computer models. All this will reduce the time required to produce such a complex fighter.
