Cranberries and strawberries are beneficial for diabetes
(ORDO NEWS) — A number of scientific studies have shown that berries, such as strawberries and cranberries, can help lower blood sugar.
Some berries are able to improve the absorption of sugar in the blood due to the antioxidant effect. These berries include strawberries and cranberries.
For example, a 2017 study published in the British Journal of Nutritional showed a positive effect of polyphenols in cranberries and strawberries on insulin and sugar.
In particular, these berries lowered glucose levels and also increased insulin sensitivity. In this study, people consumed 333 mg of polyphenols derived from strawberries and cranberries for six weeks.
The findings were also confirmed in the 2020 study. His results are published in Current Developments in Nutrition. In this study, adults with metabolic syndrome were treated for 14 weeks.
Subjects were given either a control powder, or a serving of powdered strawberries, or 2.5 servings of powdered strawberries.
They took the powder diluted with water in the morning and in the evening. As a result, those who ate 2.5 servings of strawberries had significantly improved insulin resistance and bad cholesterol particle profile after four weeks.
Finally, in a 2008 study involving people with type 2 diabetes, experts showed that cranberry juice was good for diabetes. It helps control blood glucose levels.
