COVID-19 could appear as a result of crossing two viruses
US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Presumably, the pieces of several different genomes joined together, which led to the emergence of a new pathogen that provoked a pandemic.
Scientists from the United States analyzed many genomes and viruses and were shocked by the result. They found that COVID-19 consists of different parts. The basis is the virus that was found in bats, but at the same time, a piece of the genome of the virus, the carrier of which are pangolins, played an important role.
The process of combining pieces of genomes is called recombination. In this case, the genetic material begins to redistribute after rupture and becomes the reason for the connection between completely different molecules. As a result, new genes appear.
In the case of the coronavirus gene, conventional recombination does not work. But at the same time, the molecules can still change places.
In a new study, specialists collected 43 different types of coronavirus, samples of which were obtained from both animals and humans. Initial analysis showed that the virus that caused the pandemic is most reminiscent of the one found in bats. But other areas are more like viruses from other animals.
An interesting point in this case is that the recombination process most likely occurred in the area that resembles a virus found in pangolins.
This can be explained by the fact that coronavirus has a pointed protein, due to which it clings to cells in the human body. In this regard, experts concluded that the key is the site of pangolins, and the virus molecules from bats only complement it.
Today, COVID-19 continues to spread throughout the world, claiming thousands of lives and the situation is not improving much.
