(ORDO NEWS) — Have you heard about the SETI project ? This is something like an alliance of scientists who are trying to find “brothers in mind” in order to then make contact with them.
Project participants regularly receive a huge amount of data, and their processing requires serious computing resources.
This is how the SETI@home project was born, which exists at the expense of volunteers around the world who provide free computing resources on their home or work computers to help with the processing of the received data.
In early March 2003, members of the SETI@home project assisted with the analysis of data from the Arecibo observatory, and an anomalous signal SHGb02+14a was discovered during a regular event, which immediately excited astrophysicists around the world.
The SHGb02+14a signal was recorded three times within a minute and exclusively at one frequency of 1420 MHz. It is noteworthy that earlier scientists predicted contact with extraterrestrial intelligence at this frequency.
The signal was immediately dubbed “the best candidate for an extraterrestrial message”
The source of the signal was in the void between the constellations Pisces and Aries, just where within 1000 light years there is not – as far as is known – not a single star.
The fixed frequency only added fuel to the fire and instilled faith that people had finally found evidence of the existence of extraterrestrial intelligent life.
Almost 20 years have passed, and the signal from that region of the Universe has not repeated itself.
If SHGb02+14a had a natural origin, then shouldn’t we catch it again and again? There are still no answers to this question.
