Coronavirus was contagious for dogs

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Earlier, veterinarians from China discovered antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 virus in cats from Wuhan. Now, experts have carried out new work, from which it follows that the coronavirus was contagious for dogs.

The results of the work of researchers from Hong Kong published in the scientific journal Nature. It is claimed that the experts received the first clear evidence that coronavirus can penetrate the body of dogs.

In this case, the animals do not show any symptoms. Researchers came to such conclusions by examining blood samples and nasal discharge from 15 dogs. The owners of these animals became infected with the coronavirus in February or March.

Scientists found in the body of two dogs antibodies to the virus and fragments of its RNA. It is reported that the first dog died two days after being admitted to the hospital, the second recovered.

Researchers also said that coronavirus is less likely to be transmitted from dog to dog than between cats or humans. This is indicated by the fact that the owner of one of the sick dogs had another dog, and he did not become infected.
