US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — US television show Oprah Winfrey said on Thursday she would donate $ 10 million to efforts to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus, including a new project that helps provide food to Americans at risk during the outbreak.

The announcement of this initiative was made by one of the richest and most influential women in the United States through its various accounts on social media platforms.

“Donate a total of ten million dollars to help Americans during this pandemic, in cities throughout the country and in the regions where they grew up,” she said.

Winfrey, 66, was born in Mississippi, and raised in Milwaukee, Tennessee.

Part of the donation will go to the new initiative, called the American Food Fund, which was launched in cooperation with Apple, the Ford Foundation, businesswoman Laurene Powell Jobs and actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

The fund will contribute to feeding the people hardest hit by the outbreak of the Coronavirus in America, including children who depend on school feeding programs, low-income families as well as the elderly and those who have lost their jobs.

Winfrey’s announcement came on the same day that US statistics showed a record rise in the number of jobless claims last week, which amounted to 6.6 million.
