US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Scientists still continue to study coronavirus and the origin of this virus remains the main secret.
At the beginning of the winter of 2019, 27 of the first infected people were in the market, which is located in the center of Wuhan. But as the studies that were conducted some time later showed, the very first patient on the market in Wuhan was not ill.
Scientists then evaluated the molecular dating of the virus and studied its genome. The results showed that the disease appeared in November. Therefore, scientists thought that coronavirus could be associated with wildlife.
For the first time, coronavirus, which has little in common with the modern virus, was discovered in 2002 in China and then spread to 29 countries. It was caused by bats, and small predators called palm civet became the carrier to humans.
After that incident, different types of coronavirus were found not only in bats, but also in humans.
Some time ago, scientists discovered a virus that is approximately 96% similar to the one that provoked the pandemic today. Studies have also shown that bats can act as a reservoir for some types of coronavirus.
In February, scientists found another virus that resembles 99% of SARS-CoV-2. We found it from a pangolin and therefore decided that it was a more likely carrier than bats.
The virus found in pangolin in all studies has shown that it can penetrate the cells of the human body.
Genome comparisons showed that SARS-Cov-2 may be a recombination of RaTG13 found in bats and the type found in pangolin. That is, it is a kind of “chimera” between two different viruses that existed before.
