Coronavirus brought to market in Wuhan

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The study showed that the new coronavirus was introduced to the animal market in Wuhan, China, by a person already infected with the virus.

“Publicly available genetic information does not indicate interspecific transmission of the virus in the market,” said scientists Alina Chan, a molecular biologist, and Shin Zhang, an evolutionary biologist.

Scientists said that they were “surprised” when they discovered that the coronavirus was “already adapted initially for transmission between people.” But they noted that all pathways of transmission of the virus from animal to human should be investigated, including possible transmission of the virus from bats.

“We should consider the possibility that the original virus, which was not genetically modified, could adapt while it was studied in the laboratory,” the scientists said.

It was written by Chan and Ben Deverman, scientists at the Broad Institute, a research organization affiliated with Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Zhang from the University of British Columbia.

New information is another link in growing criticism that the Chinese Communist Party has downplayed the extent of the outbreak and has not provided accurate numbers about the virus in the country.

“We need to get to the bottom of many things about COVID-19,” said Bob Sealy, a member of the British Parliament. “We need to know where the virus originated, why at first we were told that transmission between people was impossible, and what was the role of the Chinese Communist Party.”

President Trump, who criticized Beijing for lack of transparency in response to the pandemic, said the coronavirus appeared in a laboratory in Wuhan.

The US intelligence infrastructure, which concluded that the virus “was not created by humans or genetically modified,” is investigating where the outbreak first began.
