(ORDO NEWS) — Chinese experts are not going to admit that the coronavirus has spread from the Middle Kingdom. As part of a new study, they suggested that the infection began in India or Bangladesh.
The conclusions were drawn by the Shanghai Institute of Biological Sciences. Scientists relied on studies of SARS-CoV-2 strains conducted by 17 countries. According to experts, scientists have previously resorted to traditional tracing of the origin of the strain: they used a virus from bats, found a couple of years ago in southwestern China. It is more correct to count the mutations and find the original strain.
The more mutations, the longer the virus exists. Therefore, you need to take into account the coronavirus with the least number of mutations in order to find its “ancestor”. The least mutated pathogen was found in India, Bangladesh, Italy, Czech Republic, USA, Greece, Australia, Russia and Serbia. It was in these states that the infection could arise and then migrate to China. According to Chinese scientists, the coronavirus most likely originated in India or Bangladesh. Last summer there was a drought, so people and animals had one source of water. Whether the virus actually crossed a person there in the summer of 2019 in the listed countries remains to be seen.
