(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists from the Beijing Institute of Technology and the Chinese Academy of Sciences have proposed sending a constellation of probes into an orbit close to Venusian.
The devices, according to astrophysicists, will be able to track the movements of about two thousand potentially dangerous asteroids known today.
Scientists turned their attention to the Venusian orbit because it is conveniently located to cover the entire near-Earth space.
According to their calculations, only six probes will be enough, which will be located near Venus and will be able to track “potentially dangerous” asteroids that are approaching the Earth.
Dangerous are space objects whose diameter exceeds 100-150 meters and which approach the Earth at a distance of less than 0.05 astronomical units. Today there are 2072 such objects.
China also plans to conduct an experiment similar to DART before 2026 , which will also involve an attempt to change the trajectory of a celestial body by colliding with a spacecraft.
