(ORDO NEWS) — Chinese scientists examined samples of lunar rock brought to Earth by the Chang’e-5 mission in 2020.
Astronomers from the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences have found evidence of an asteroid on the moon that killed the dinosaurs 68 million years ago.
Researchers have learned that the time of formation of glass on the Earth’s satellite coincides with the period of meteorite impacts on the Earth.
215 balls of glass ranging in size from 50 to 200 micrometers were found in the soil from the Moon.
Astronomers noted that in places where the Moon collided with a large meteorite, such glass balls were formed due to the release of a large amount of heat.
Among the balls were found specimens aged 68 million years. This is the same period when the asteroid that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs collided with the Earth.
