(ORDO NEWS) — On April 12, Cosmonautics Day, a new achievement was recorded in the work of the Experimental Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) in China.
The tokamak, also referred to as China’s “artificial sun”, demonstrated sustained plasma operation for 403 seconds in high-hold mode, nearly quadrupling the previous record.
According to the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP), the main goal of the experiments is to develop a fusion reactor, which will be the basis for future growth in the efficiency of power generation by fusion power plants.
The experiments are carried out in order to create conditions for launching nuclear fusion, similar to the natural processes taking place on the Sun.
The main achievement is the high-containment mode, in which the temperature and density of the particles rise sharply.
However, in order to bring the future of the use of thermonuclear energy closer, it is necessary to achieve an optimal ratio of the energy expended to the energy received.
At the moment, there is no progress in solving this problem.
Despite this, the achievements made by Chinese science in the field of nuclear power are becoming more and more significant.
The EAST superconducting tokamak has already set a record among other superconducting tokamaks around the world, and continues on its path to creating the future of fusion power.
