Chinese astronomers may have received signals from an alien civilization
(ORDO NEWS) — The website of the official newspaper of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Science and Technology Daily, promptly removed the information that the Chinese radio telescope “Tianyang”, aka FAST, may have detected signals from an alien civilization.
A deleted Science and Technology Daily article cited Zhang Tongjie, chief scientist of the extraterrestrial search group co-founded with Beijing Normal University, the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of California at Berkeley.
The scientist said that the team of researchers recorded unique electromagnetic cosmic signals, which supposedly differ from all previous ones, so astronomers continue to study them. However, why this information was quickly removed from the official website of the publication remains unclear.
This news was commented by Dan Vertimer, chairman of the SETI project (general name for projects and activities to search for extraterrestrial civilizations) of the space science laboratory at the University of California at Berkeley.
Vertimer vehemently dismissed the possibility that the signals received by FAST were from an advanced alien civilization. He stated: “These signals come from radio interference; they are caused by radio interference from earthlings, not aliens.”
