(ORDO NEWS) — Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Institute of Geochemistry and other organizations have compiled the most accurate map of the surface of the Earth‘s natural satellite to date, using data from the Chinese Lunar Exploration Program collected over the past 15 years, supplemented by information from the US, Japanese and Indian space agencies.
The scale of the resulting map is 1:2,500,000, the legend consists of 90 colors, which indicate different parts of the moon. The map reflects the evolution of the lunar crust under the conditions of magmatic processes, the impact of the fall of celestial bodies on the surface of the Moon, and volcanic activity.
