US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the United States is preparing a decisive response to China’s efforts to prepare a national security law for Hong Kong, and will announce measures taken by the end of the week.
U.S. media reported that these measures include establishing control over transactions and freezing accounts and assets of Chinese government officials and companies as a punishment for the implementation of this law, as well as refusing Chinese officials to grant visas. When a White House spokeswoman was asked whether America would strip Hong Kong of its status as a separate customs territory, she replied that she could not say anything about this.
Since China is determined to approve Hong Kong national security law, it is prepared for any possible reaction from the United States. Sanctions against individuals and visa restrictions as leverage are clearly an inappropriate response. Support for Hong Kong national security law is gaining momentum.
Many Chinese people realize that some American politicians are grabbing China by the throat. Long-term rivalry between China and the United States is inevitable. In the face of American aggression, China must remain calm, clarity of mind, and prepare for a protracted battle with the United States.
As China possesses powerful nuclear deterrence forces and builds up its military power, the US has no particular desire to enter into armed conflict with China because of its key interests. The last trump card for the United States is a break in ties.
China will not act impulsively, breaking all relations with the United States. China will deepen reforms and open up to the outside world, increasing the attractiveness of the Chinese market. If the United States insists on breaking ties with China in areas where its own strength is weakening, then so be it.
The key advantage of the United States is its high-tech industries. China does not hide the fact that it must close the gap, and we are confident that it will be able to unite the whole country and achieve major achievements. A few decades ago, China created an atomic bomb, an intercontinental ballistic missile and an artificial Earth satellite, joining the community of superpowers. So why not China make major breakthroughs in areas that currently face obstacles?
Another important US advantage is financial hegemony, which makes it inconvenient for China to exchange with the outside world. If the United States dares to resort to financial means, it will damage the reputation of the financial system that they lead.
If the financial war gets out of hand, the United States itself will suffer the most. The real economy in America is shrinking, and this country is increasingly dependent on the financial sector. And this means that the outbreak of financial war will be tantamount to self-harm.
The Chinese people are pragmatic and hardworking. We have created a comprehensive production system and gained the technical capabilities to make breakthroughs. We also have a huge market. Such a country can hardly be isolated and contained.
The Sino-American “battle” for Hong Kong continues. Americans can play any kind of cards. Hong Kong is under Chinese sovereignty, and whatever laws Washington enacts, it’s just office trash.
In conditions of long-term competition with the United States, one of the main tasks for China is to build up the stock of internal forces. We have enough funds to withstand external shocks, and internal adaptability and vitality are the source of future endurance. Ultimately, China is competing with itself.
