US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — According to a BDS spokesman, China plans to complete the construction of its BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), launching its last satellite in June.
The latest satellite is the geostationary satellite in the Earth’s orbit of the BDS-3 system, the third iteration of BDS, which already provides location and navigation services for global users, said Ran Chenqi, director of China’s Satellite Navigation Authority, in an interview with CCTV on Thursday.
“The BDS-3 system should consist of 30 satellites, 29 of which are now in orbit. It will be fully completed in June with the launch of the last satellite, ”Ran said. “Both the satellite and the launch vehicle were sent to the launch pad. Preparations are underway for the upcoming launch.”
Chinese scientists began building the BDS-3 system in 2009. Compared to the BDS-2 system, the technology of the BDS-3 system has been significantly improved.
According to Ran, the completion of the global system will be announced after launch. BDS will offer its users all services, including high-precision positioning and short messaging, which “will bring new vivid features to global navigation satellite systems.”
