US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — A successful launch of a new Chinese spacecraft was carried out from the Wenchang Cosmodrome in the South China Hainan Province. The test version of the manned spacecraft was launched into orbit by the Changzheng-5B launch vehicle (Long March-5B).
The heavy missile Great Campaign-5B (CZ-5B) launched at exactly 13 hours on May 5. From the Wenchang cosmodrome on the Hainan island in the South China Sea, a prototype of a new manned Chinese spacecraft was put into low Earth orbit.
The ship was assembled in August 2019. It consists of two compartments: a service module and a habitable capsule. At the same time, technologies have been used in the manufacture of the service module, allowing the module to be used repeatedly, replacing only the heat shield.
The mass of the new Chinese spacecraft, depending on the modification, varies from 14 to 20 tons. It was created to deliver tyconauts to a promising new Chinese orbital station.
The Chinese heavy carrier Great Voyage 5B was designed for flights to the Moon and Mars. His first start was in 2016. In total, three missile launches were carried out, two of them were successful. The rocket can bring payloads weighing up to 25 tons into low Earth orbit.
The launch weight of the rocket is 837 tons with a length of 53.7 meters and a diameter of 3.35 meters in the central part.
Beijing plans to launch in the second quarter of 2021 into orbit the base unit of the Heavenly Palace Chinese space orbital station.
