(ORDO NEWS) — China has successfully launched the Advanced Space-Based Solar Observatory (ASO-S) to observe the Sun. This was announced by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).
The launch was made at 07:43 Beijing time (02:43 Moscow time) from the Jiuquan Cosmodrome. The launch was carried out using the Long March-2D launch vehicle.
ASO-S will be in a sun-synchronous orbit at a height of 720 km. The device must stay in orbit for at least four years.
The observatory will study the Sun, its magnetic field and coronal mass ejections and solar flares. The device will also be used for space weather forecasting.
