(ORDO NEWS) — The China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) has announced that a new oxygen-kerosene steam engine capable of generating 120 tons of thrust has been successfully tested at the Xi’an Institute of Aerospace Propulsion.
The new power plant will be used in the Long March 7 missiles, scheduled for launch as early as 2023.
For 2023, CASIC has planned more than 60 orbital expeditions (apparently in order to catch up with SpaceX, which carried out 61 orbital missions last year).
Apparently, Chinese engineers are hoping that a powerful new engine, which recently successfully passed 50-second fire tests, will help them fulfill this serious plan.
