Chikungunya cases in the Philippines reach 400, up 500% since 2021

(ORDO NEWS) — Philippine health officials are reporting 400 cases of chikungunya through August 13 this year, up 506% from the same period in 2021 (66).

Calabarzon (106), Central Visayas (78), Davao (68) and Western Visayas (58) have the most cases, according to new data released on Friday.

Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes. It causes fever and severe joint pain, which is often debilitating. Other symptoms include muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue, and rash.
