Chernobyl engineer shared details about the disaster

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The Chernobyl disaster happened 34 years ago. In the middle of the night, the fourth power unit was destroyed by a series of powerful explosions. Due to the fact that the test of the reactor was unsuccessful, the whole world suffered. Mechanical engineer Alexei Ananenko, shared the details of what happened immediately after the explosion.

Ananenko said that the morning was completely ordinary. The only difference was that the asphalt suddenly began to be sprayed with foam. When he arrived by working bus to the station, he saw that the reactor was on the sidelines and immediately understood everything. After the accident, all engineers were instructed on how to properly conduct rescue operations. They also added that those who suffer from severe exposure will be sent to separate boxes.

Ananenko said that people were dying before his eyes and they were immediately taken to the Moscow hospital. He also shared information about the costumes with which they tried to defend themselves. They were not at all what they were shown in the movies. The staff did not have any dosimeters to measure large doses of radiation. They were given out only when the engineers descended to the scene of the accident. Also, the simplest rag masks were used, hats from a rag were put on the head so that nothing would drip. Such protection was clearly not enough to at least slightly reduce the fatal effects of radiation.
