(ORDO NEWS) — New tests have proven that the Royal Navy’s Wildcat helicopters are capable of carrying 20 Martlet air-to-surface anti-ship missiles or up to four Sea Venoms.
Designed to take out small threats to the fleet, the Martlet has a three-kilogram explosive charge and can hit a target at twice the speed of sound.
Sea Venom, which is twice the size, has more than twice the range and is equipped with a 30-kilogram charge.
The Wildcat has been operated with seven different weapon configurations, with the helicopter loaded in excess of six tons in some cases.
