US, NEW YORK (ORDO NEWS) — Two Russian Su-35 fighters escorted an American reconnaissance aircraft Poseidon P-8A (Poseidon) over the Mediterranean Sea on Tuesday. Such a statement is contained in a statement circulated by the press service of the 6th fleet of the U.S. Navy.
“Two Russian Su-35 aircraft made an unsafe interception of a P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft, which is assigned to the Sixth Fleet of the US Navy, over the Mediterranean Sea on May 26, 2020,” the document says. According to the Navy, “the interception was defined as unsafe and unprofessional” due to the fact that Russian aircraft were very close on both sides of Poseidon, thereby “limiting its ability to safely maneuver.” The incident lasted about an hour, the statement said.
The U.S. Navy posted two videos, lasting about 10 seconds, which show how Russian fighters escort an American aircraft.
In April, the Pentagon already reported on the allegedly unsafe escort by Russian Su-35s of American P-8A Poseidon over the Mediterranean Sea.
