BREAKING: Foreign substances found in another batch of Moderna vaccine in Japan
US, NEW YORK (ORDO NEWS) — Foreign substances were found in another batch of coronavirus vaccine produced by the American company Moderna, supplied to Japan. This was reported on Sunday on the Okinawa Prefecture website.
It is noted that during the vaccination in the city of Naha (the administrative center of Okinawa) on Saturday, a certain black substance was found in one ampoule and two syringes. During the check, pink impurities were found in another syringe. In total, about 400 people were vaccinated with the vaccine from this batch, however, it is alleged that this was done after doctors visually verified the purity of the substance in the syringes. No health problems have been reported in those vaccinated.
Meanwhile, the batch number of this vaccine is different from the other three that have been suspended by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. Due to this incident, vaccination at one of the vaccination centers in Okinawa has been stopped.
Earlier, the Japanese Ministry of Health announced the suspension of the use of about 1.63 million doses of Moderna vaccine from three batches produced in Spain. The size of the unknown particles found in them reaches several millimeters. Kyodo’s agency reported that the unknown components could be metal particles as they react to magnets. At the time of the publication of the statement of the Ministry of Health, local authorities had already introduced about 170 thousand doses of vaccine from defective parties to the inhabitants of Japan.
On Saturday, it also became known about two deaths among residents of Japan who received doses of the drug from consignments where foreign substances were found. The deceased are men 38 and 30 years old, who have not previously had chronic diseases and allergic reactions. They were vaccinated with the second dose of the vaccine on August 15 and 22, respectively. The day after vaccination, both had fever. Both died three days after vaccination for unknown reasons.
In Japan, in addition to Moderna, vaccines are used by the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca and the American-German consortium of Pfizer and BioNTech. At the moment, 69.2 million people (54.5% of the population) received the first dose of the vaccine in the country, and 55.2 (43.5%) received two doses.
