(ORDO NEWS) — In the last 250,000 years, people have had children at an average of 26.9 years, and the age of mothers decreased about 10,000 years ago, and has increased again in the last 5,000 years, biologists from Indiana University found.
Children’s DNA inherited from their parents contains approximately 25-75 new mutations. Their features depend on the age of the mother and father.
Scientists have developed a method that allows, based on the available genomic data, to calculate at what age children were conceived in the last 250 thousand years.
As it turned out, on average during this period, people had children at the age of 26.9 years. Women gave birth to children at 23.2 years, and men became fathers at 30.7 years.
The age of parents decreased about 10 thousand years ago – probably due to the rise of civilization, which led to an increase in population.
Over the past 5,000 years, the average age of mothers has been 26.4 years, with a gradual upward trend. The age of the fathers remained the same.
The results obtained provide a deeper understanding of the demography of ancient people and contribute to a better understanding of history, the authors of the work say.
