(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists from the University of Copenhagen asked the question: what does the grunting of pigs mean?
A small study that took a couple of months – and the answer was found. It turns out that they convey their mood with sounds.
To figure out how it works, biologists listened to more than 7,000 voice recordings from 411 pigs. The recordings varied from short squeaks of satisfaction during feeding to screams during slaughter (yes, alas).
As a result, experts came to the conclusion that the emotions of pigs can be perfectly recognized by the sounds they make.
True, it is not easy for a person to do this – there are many nuances in the sounds of pigs. This is where the algorithm comes in. With the help of machine learning, the algorithm understands which sounds are positive and which are negative.
Scientists are confident that the new technology will help farmers control the health and well-being of animals.
